Cal Condition Fullerton

The stabbing loss of life of Steven Chan, a former college administrator, at Cal Condition Fullerton on
Aug. 19, 2019, still left a lasting impact on our campus community. As skilled communicators,
we had been thrust into the nationwide highlight as we scrambled to offer treatment and comfort and ease to
our campus local community by means of strategic messaging although also performing with various campus
and off-campus businesses investigating the scenario.

Strategic Communications’ most important aim was to retain the campus local community knowledgeable about the
apprehension of the suspect as well as what we ended up undertaking for our campus personnel, college, and
learners influenced by this tragic act. We also experienced the simultaneous process of responding to media
from throughout the country seeking to fill their 24/7 information cycle.
