NOVATO, CA — A Novato elementary university chess workforce has captured a state championship.
The Hamilton School’s team on Sunday took initial place at the 2022 CalChess Super States Championship’s K-8 Rookie segment, the Novato Unified School District introduced.
The group fielded 16 players representing two sections in the school’s to start with condition championship look in method record.
The group placed tied for 2nd in the club class, which involved Major 20 finishes from Aaron Chen (5th location), Jesus Mendieta (10th), Marcela Sherlyn Flores (16th) and Larry Calle Labou (17th). Eighth graders Emily Elbing and Olivia Corridor represented Hamilton in the K-8 intermediate area.
All players competed in five video games.
Abel Talamantez serves as the team’s coach and system director. He formerly serving as the San Francisco-based Mechanics’ Institute’s chess director. He also serves as Chair of the US Chess Golf equipment Committee and was named the 2021 US Chess Organizer of the Calendar year.
“As a result of online resources these types of as Chesskid, our students have been capable to engage in, practice and interact on the web absent from the chess club, and we have also arranged some club matches nationally and internationally,” the NUSD stated in a statement.
“The pupils have performed on the net matches versus DC Girls Chess Club and we have an upcoming match on April 26 in opposition to the Capablanca Chess Club from Chihuahua, Mexico. Also on April 16, we had a ladies staff compete at the ChessKid Usa Women and Women’s Championship on the web on Chesskid.”
