Democrat Rep. Leila Staffler was the first to just take the podium, questioning McDoulett’s job as “special counsel,” and opposing the proposed Senate impeachment guidelines.
“When I looked at the policies, I won’t lie, I was stunned at the lengthy technique, that at any supplied level prior to the precise Senate impeachment trial proceedings could disqualify the copious amounts of evidence that clearly show obvious and repetitive actions of felony, corruption, and neglect of responsibility by Governor Torres about these various several years. With no the proof to back again it up, the impeachment system is incomplete,” she stated.
“Doing what is suitable is by no means quick, but it is generally the ideal issue to do. So, senators, we talk to that you do what is ideal for the men and women: to be fair. These regulations? They are not fair. They skew in favor of this impeached governor.”
Democrat Rep. Corina Magofna then stepped up to the podium to also supply her comments.
“If the Senate body moves ahead and adopts the impeachment policies as it is, then you’ll be encroaching and overreaching into the Residence of Representatives’ talents to prosecute the situation that’s right before us. Plain and uncomplicated,” she said.

As for the rule to limit the impeachment prosecutor to just the Property legal counsel and staff members, Santos claimed this is “unjust, unethical, unfair, and unreasonable” to the House of Reps.
“If these overreaching actions have been reciprocated, I undeniably doubt that the Senate would consent and tolerate these disregard [for] the separation of the residences of Legislature, and this has been echoed by many members of the Household of Reps,” she additional.
She also mentioned that there have been no limitations put on who the impeached official can have as lawful counsel and team for the impeachment proceedings.
“Again, this is extremely biased, partial, and unfair to the Property of Reps… I am not a lawful expert, but primarily based on my understanding of the proposed principles, the Senate will not be conducting a honest and impartial demo and, if these procedures are adopted, we could possibly not even have a demo at all. The proposed rules are littered with bias. It is exceptionally obvious and evident that the scales of justice have been deliberately tipped to accommodate the impeached,” she stated.
In accordance to Sen. Deleon Guerrero, “It is crystal clear that the adopted impeachment guidelines do not spell justice.”
Senator Manglona furthermore opposed the impeachment regulations.
Voting in favor of adopting the procedures have been the Senate president, the Senate ground chief, Hocog, Cruz and King-Nabors.
