A home in Wilkinson, Indiana, has taken the phrase “ball is life” to soaring new heights.
But a caveat first – it may give you serious high school flashbacks.
This four-bedroom, three-bathroom house, which is on the real estate market for $299,000, was once a high school gymnasium and you can still see traces of it everywhere.
“Rare opportunity for your very own high school gym,” the listing on Zillow.com says. “This is an honest to goodness treat. Former Wilkinson HS Gym has half court with original basketball goal and original maple flooring – approx 5,984-square-feet.”
Photos show a pristine kitchen, living room and dining area on what once was a former basketball court complete with visible lines including the free throw and three point lines. Then of course, you have your normal, run-of-the-mill bedrooms and bathrooms throughout the rest of the fascinating property.
And yes, according to the listing, the home was once zoned commercial, but no worries – it’s now residential.
With NBA Summer League in full swing, basketball lovers flocked to the listing on the popular real estate Facebook page and Twitter account Zillow Gone Wild to express their joy, awe, and tip off their jokes regarding the home.
“When ball is literally life,” one person tweeted.
“I kind of want this more than anything,” another said.
“A need not a want,” someone commented.
“Perfect for simultaneously baking a quiche and practicing your free throws,” one person observed.
“I actually really love seeing buildings being repurposed like this and still being able to tell what it used to be,” another pointed out. “Churches, gyms, schools, etc. I love them all!”
“I’d buy this but I’m in Florida, and it doesn’t look like the house allows traveling. (I’ll see myself out),” someone joked.
“I work in a high school. I’m pretty sure that smell is never gonna leave,” another said.
“Oh no thank you, I remember the stink of my high school gym, every time it gets over 80 your home is going to smell like sweaty teenagers,” one person commented.
“Well, I guess telling the kids no playing ball in the house is out,” another joked.
“I can smell these pictures!” someone expressed.
Wilkinson is about 35 miles east of Indianapolis.
